Back to School
Created in 1995 by Centraide Outaouais, the Back to School program provides new school supplies to students from low-income families.
Families can shop for their children’s school supplies at 25% off the cost price. The lower price makes it easier to buy items that match children’s tastes and needs. These new materials also help build the confidence of kids who can fit equally into the school environment despite economic disadvantage.
Some 30 community organizations in the region set up thrift stores each year to welcome families and help them get ready for school. Their work is financially supported by Centraide Outaouais and other partners and contributors.
Since its inception, the program has helped over 57,000 children start the school year on the right foot. Over 28 years, Centraide has invested more than $2,420,000 in this program.
