GATINEAU, Tuesday October 2, 2012 — Partners, donors, volunteers, union workers, business people, agency staff and community members gathered at the Maison de la culture de Gatineau this evening to kick off Centraide Outaouais’s 2018 campaign.
“In the days following the September 21 tornadoes, Centraide Outaouais’s mission remains as essential as ever and serves to remind us how much mobilization and solidarity can make a difference in supporting people in need during disasters and year-round,” said Daniel Jean, Chair of the Centraide Outaouais Board of Directors.
More than ever, we need a strong network of organizations to help people and families in need. All institutions are important, but we must act as one to provide an effective social safety net in the fight against poverty and social exclusion.
“Although our region is a prosperous one, there are many pockets of poverty, so that one in 10 lives in poverty in the Outaouais. I visited a number of agencies and saw how essential their services are” said Campaign Chair Lawrence Cannon. “This is why I urge you to join me in giving generously to the Centraide Outaouais campaign, because the success of this community-wide effort can have a profound effect on all of us.”
In order to better reflect its mission, Centraide Outaouais has removed the funds collected for HealthPartners from its objective.
We are asking our community to contribute $3,547,000 this year in support of 62,100 people.
